18 Tools I use as a Designer & Blogger
I’m always sharing what tools are useful to me via Twitter, but just incase you don’t use it – I wanted to share here! I always get asked what productivity tools and apps I use on a regular basis and I pretty much open all of these everyday. There are a few apps that are similar in type because some may be all in one tools or I’m just starting to use one more than the other. Check these out, they are ones I would recommend to a designer/blogger/creative type. If there is something missing from the list that you think should be on here, please share in the comments!
Communication Tools

Connect and share with the people in your company or organization. It’s like twitter but for companies. Anyone in a company can start their Yammer network and begin inviting colleagues. The privacy of each network is ensured by limiting access to those with a valid company email address.

Free calls, video calls and instant messaging over the internet.

TweetDeck is an Adobe Air desktop application for twitter.

RSS Reader for the mac. Nice UI.
Organization Tools

Task management for the mac.

Dropbox syncs your files online and across computers. Up to 2GB for free.

Great way to keep track of forms in a database.

Organize all your bookmarks in one place and never lose your local bookmarks.

Web based billing via PayPal or Google Checkout. Free and simple!

Keep track of emails, feedback, requests & helpdesk system. This is one amazing tool and I will be writing a review on it within the coming months.
Design/Dev Tools

CSS Editor with live preview built in.

Code/text editor, simple!

Just getting into using Coda: CSS, text editor, file transfer and integrates nicely with Transmit.

Best FTP client ever. (In my opinion of course!)

Take screengrabs quickly and easily with just one window. I like that it’s a stand alone app & it runs quickly.

Web development within Firefox.

Eyedropper Firefox extension.

Screenshots right from your desktop. Easily share, tag and upload!

Good stuff. I like it and use most of them although I found some interesting new ones here. Thank you for sharing it.
Szabi´s last blog post..How to prepare a design questionnaire
Why, oh why, the blur on the screnshots. Do you work for Advil?
Nice list of apps, yes, but ugh, that’s painful to look at.
Very Nice list, Already using 8 of them. Gonna try others!
Mahbub´s last blog post..Guitar Chord Finder : Yet another old day script
its bookmarked. Transmit is good but i still prefer filezilla. :D
Some I use but a few pleasant surprises which I now have bookmarked. Well done and thanks for sharing
Great list of resources. I use quite a few of them and am on my way to check out some of the others.
Angie Bowen´s last blog post..The True Benefits of Freelancing Pt. Deux!
This is a great list… but unfortunately a few of them run only on a mac. :(
iconzin´s last blog post..Masinhop
What does Paparazzi do that cmd-shift-4 doesn’t?
I disagree about Transmit3, Cyberduck is much easier to use, plus it’s free. (http://cyberduck.ch/)
A really great list of resources. Glad to see I already use some!
Transmit rules, and a big fan of TweetDeck.
But for coding I use BB Edit, RSS I use NewsFire, and Voice/Text/Video conferencing I use iChat.
“Things” looks very interesting. I’ve been disappointed in iCal/iPhone Calendar. I’ve looked at some other ‘to do list’ type iPhone apps, but nothing that I’ve found useful. $50 for the desktop app and another $10 for the iPhone app. It won’t break the bank, but it’s not the budget solution either.
Tweetdeck & Textmate are awesome tools. I prefer to use Cyberduck over Transmit and RTM over Things.
Great. How about Add Url for easy addition of social bookmarking/sharing? http://www.addurl.com
sorry, it’s addthis.com
Wierdly enough, I just noticed my avatar in the Tweetdeck app screenshot. Like a snapshot from the past. Cool list – makes me drool more for a Mac!
I never use any of the above tools before,Am I a loser?
Some great applications there some i can’t use sadly as they are mac only i’ve always wanted to try out that Transit i’ve heard it great. Hopefully in the future i’ll get a mac and try out the other applications i haven’t already tried.
Great list thanks. Some I knew about, some I didn’t.
Paparazzi can take a snapshot of the ENTIRE web page. The Mac keyboard shortcut only takes the viewable window.
I’ve actually switched to LittleSnapper now as it integrates with emberapp.com, an EXCELLENT resource for designers!! http://www.realmacsoftware.com/
Great Information about these helpful tools. We are already using some of these, great to know about the others. We will have to give them a test run. Thank You.
awesome apps, thank you very much
Another one I like is MeasureIt. It’s a pixel measuring add-on for Firefox.
Great tools I prob use skype the most out of all these services. My office has bad cell reception so i use skype to make all my important calls since its so cheap. its also great for instant messaging and video conferencing!
l like this very good and all great tools
Very Useful list. I should say that you have saved my time!! I was Googling for a tool where I can manage all the inspiration I have been collecting. I have found it! Scrnshots.
Thank You.
Great resource! I already use most of these tools, but found a couple new services on this list I’ll have to try out!
Thanks!
Great list! There are a few on here that I plan to try out in the near future. This page is definitely getting bookmarked in my web development resources folder! Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Great tip, but anyone knows any good Task Management software for Win?
Thanks a lot for any information.
