20 Hot Client Industries That Hire Freelancers
The bad economy and company layoffs are dominating today’s news. Even international freelancers who may have clients in the US are directly or indirectly affected by this market. There are conflicting reports on whether or not this positively or negatively effects freelancers. Some claim that it’s a positive thing since companies tend to let their full-timers go to save on salary, insurance etc. Other sources claim the recession is hitting freelancers as well since companies tend to trim their advertising and marketing budgets first.

The silver lining of this storm cloud is that many industries are actively recruiting and hiring freelancers. This article by Jaime Mintun of Freelance Switch offers many good industries to keep your eye on. Some may be familiar, some may be new to you.
Check it out and let us know if you’ve tapped into any of these or if you have any ideas not mentioned!

I have actually been reading that post over for the past week or so and coming up with ideas for different ventures in 2009. It’s an awesome resource, thanks for posting it.
Mike, you are very welcome!
It was a great read! As the recession will most probably continue for a while longer and companies have to up their focus, maybe there will be more work for us freelancers. There’s no saying where it will end in my opinion. But no matter how you look at it, it makes you wanna work harder. Doesn’t it! ;)
Also want to point out that FuelYourCreativity is by far one of my favorite websites/blogs to fuel up in inspiration.

Hi-
Great article. I’m always over at FreelanceSwitch myself.
I think I’d add TheSuperlancers to your list here. I’d like to see a list of places you use, this is my main one besides Project4Hire.
Anyway, here’s that one you missed: http://www.thesuperlancers.com
Tons of cheap coders and designers, markerters, writers, whatever, but more programmers than projects for now so it’s probably a good time to fish for new coders and designers. I do. ;) I guess if you’re a freelancer that’s a good new place for jobs too.
Hope that helps!
Jay
Still relevant today, job security is a thing of the past, companies can no longer guarantee job security, so I see freelancers really coming to the front with being able to fill the void as and when needed.
I’m going to read that immediatly ..
Great post.
I think this is because of some financial crisis.
