Whilst the experience can teach you a few things I believe the constraints and pressure can only lessen the creative instinct of a designer. @Matt Smith - I also believe it's just one of those places where you can just get away and deal with what you need to. Designers from big firms are often forced to design in the confines of a cubicle or small office, an environment that can be completely uninspiring. Designers need to be free to design whenever and wherever inspiration strikes them.
