Where as art doesn't necessarily have or require a purpose or function at all and is usually centered around subjectivity. Art is a concept or an original thought. Art would be the content that the design is communicating. Design can enhance the art but the art is the profound and the profane. The ability to project an idea that can alter the constant and promote a change in the audience's understanding of themselves and their world. Art can impact, offend, and reveal. Art can also entertain. Design is the carrier. The art is the goods. What comes to my mind is that design is a byproduct of usability, form following function, and all that jargon.
