Clever Marketing or what?
Have you ever signed up for something when you didn’t really know what it was for? Curious maybe? Well here is some “clever” marketing and it worked on me.
A couple weeks ago I received a notice on buysellads.com that someone had purchased an ad spot. Well of course I’m going to check it out before I approve it! ;) So I get to this website called “Clever Andy”. I see nothing much besides a logo and some text so I proceed to read it and it’s vague. Very vague.
Seems harmless so I approve it. Today I get an email with a little bit more info on what “Clever Andy” actually is. Do you want to know what it is?
Well I think they did a great job on marketing so I’m not going to spoil the fun. What I will tell you is this; it’s geared towards creatives and I think you will be very very interested in checking it out. I wouldn’t stear you wrong & you will definitely benefit from it – assuming your interested.
Curious still? Well go ahead and visit the website now – but the big launch is Monday! So make sure to check back for more info.

I saw this a few days ago yeah, very curious. Although it didn’t make me want to sign up, it just confused me. I’ve only signed up on your recommendation, so it better be good! (I’m sure it will be)

Liam – I hope it’s good ;) It sounds it from the info I was provided! We will see monday I guess!
I took a look at this and it took ages for me to understand exactly what they meant, I think they could do a lot better by producing a simple image/chart showing step by step what happens, at the moment it was a lot of text and wasn’t easy to follow.
I don’t think I am going to use it because at the end of the day it doesn’t seem like you will be able to make much out of it until it becomes popular and that will take a very long time. It’s maybe good if you have designs lying around but I wouldn’t want to wait ages for them to find a client for it, I would eather sell it for a very low price and have the money there and then.
Wish them the best of luck but I wont be using it until I can see some proof it works.
Plus on top of that, it has no privacy policy, terms of use etc. so if I sent over my work whats stopping them merely stealing it, it is imperative that with sites like this they bring an element of trust to the user, this site really needs to get some legal documents on it to cover both parties.

Hey Simon
We actually do have a terms of service page, which now that we think of it should be linked to from the register page.
Thanks for pointing that out.
I agree with the chart thing and are currently working on some imagery for the site to simplify things.
“I would eather sell it for a very low price and have the money”
You have already put the time and effort into it why take another loss. We are going build value into the entire package and then cut you a check for 20% of the final sale price, which will lead to a much better return.
“It’s maybe good if you have designs lying around but I wouldn’t want to wait ages for them to find a client for it”
We have an extensive team to build these out, a very large existing client base along with an aggressive advertising campaign to ensure you everyone sees returns as soon as possible.
“Wish them the best of luck but I wont be using it until I can see some proof it works.”
Thanks for the warm wishes Simon, we have already moved some user submitted designs to production so you will see proof soon!
If you would like to contact me to discuss this further please do so I would love to get your input on things and see where you think we can improve.
You can reach me at “lee” at Clever Andy.
Thanks Simon,
-Lee
Thanks for your comments Simon, you bring up some great points but I think we will see very soon the “proof” and if so maybe you will change your mind if Clever Andy delivers! I just read through the Terms, wow that was long – but well worth a read. You can find it here: http://cleverandy.com/terms
Thanks again!
I plan on submitting something within the next month – so hopefully I can follow up with the post to let you know the process. (No matter the outcome)
@Lee, Maybe once you have some projects out you can update your site to reflect a works section etc…
I think that will def. help designers see the potential and gain some trust. (I know your limited on imagery right now).
Thanks and keep up the good work.
This is a very clever idea. Pretty interesting. They don’t list how much you would get paid, so it is hard to see if giving the rights to your designs away would be worth it or not. Only time will tell.
Cheers.
I like the concept, good foundation but I would be tentative still. It’s tough enough putting your work out there with the possibility of someone copying it and calling it their own.
I wish them the best, though.
Interesting idea, I too would be concerned about the pay though, even ballpark figures would be useful to disclose. Also, there could be abuse of this system with people ripping off other designs, how will you combat that?

This is the first time I heard of Clever Andy. I am very impressed. It wasn’t very vague in my opinion, in fact it made perfect sense. Thank you very much for showing me this, I will be using it often.
Nice info here, great blog and I really like your layout with your ads down the right hand side. Very nice layout, A good inspiration on how I can set up my blog.
