Modern Bicycle Concepts That Will Blow Your Mind
Transportation Designers have always tried to push the envelope when it comes to speed, style and grace. The world of streamlined bicycles is driven by all of these same principles. However, several concept bikes have begun to look like they are screaming around corners even when they are sitting still. Here are some super sleek & stylish modern concepts that are beautiful and intriguing.

Mind still not blown.
Very nice and interesting bikes. I wonder what will be the cost.
hehe mindblowing for sure!!
Nice looking bikes, but useless for picking up some groceries though. The design of the future will be a cargo-bike, if you ask me.
Agreed about the cargo-bike. Check out the OpenBike that shows a way a cargo bike could work which could bring all kinds of functionality to the cycle industry.
Nothing beats the Nihola as a Cargo bike, I use one for buying groceries, driving my daughter, and even my wife when she was pregnant, it handles really easy, and is just a pure joy to drive, check out their website; http://nihola.info/en/
I can´t recommend this bike enough, its a really great investment, but of course one of several bike types I use during a normal week.
Dear Designers,
Try to go 100 miles the same day on one of these bikes,
it migth get You out of the psychosis, and back to reality,
Good luck, Holger
Holger,
These are concepts that are in-line with concept cars. Rarely does something like this get produced in its entirety but, they are made to push the industry of new technology and new ideas. Much like cars only parts will be produced, like the handle bars or something of the sort. Bikes that are on the market are very streamlined and lightweight because of additions to the industry like carbon fiber and titanium. So, bikes looking like this may not be far off. Race bikes that are used in the Tour De France and other competitions are not comfortable for short or long distances but, are built for speed.
AMAZING! I already have an incredible bike in my Trek, but those… well… the design concepts are fantabulous! But I’m a hardcore mountainbiker and can’t picture myself wanting to get those dirty. :( And believe me, I get dirty. But as for the pavement? Hm… perhaps I’m inspired to start a new kind of biking.. URBAN!
awesome Chad. So glad these concepts still incorporate two wheels. Y’know, “bi-cycle”. When I saw “future” I assumed to find some sort of motor/powered device on at least one of these.
Yay for pedals and tires!
A whole load of designs for a tiny minority of bicycle geeks and nothing for the 99.9% of the rest of us. There’s a reason that the majority of the 100 million daily cyclists in the EU ride basic upright models. They work. They are mainstream.
And yes, cargo bikes, please. There are 30,000 of them in use every day in Copenhagen. These are the SUVs for civilized societies. And nothing übertech about them, Real bikes for real people.
Really good stuff Chad, I wan’t them all :)
Really nice designs – this is what the bicycle product managers all over the world like – new ideas and new ways of thinking bikes.
Please have a look at a very cool design which is already in production – it is not mainstream design – actually it contains many of the frame design ideas which is also in many of the futuristics designs – and you can buy it now!!! have a look at http://www.avenue-cykler.dk and be inspired.
Interesting concepts I must say, and great to see creative designers coming up with some new designs. Although I must point out some of these designs shown are way out of date (ie those hubless wheel designs came out nearly 20 years ago and there were some pretty neat concepts shown way back then, and the ‘black hole’ wheel even went into production for a while), and even check out the race bikes that I produce at http://www.pearsonbikes.com , which are quite similar (and I think much better looking) than Lewis Rowe’s concept bike you have shown here. I’m not sure also if the drive to the hubless rear wheel would actually work or be efficient in reality.
Amazing stuff!
Intuitive stuff. I never would have thought of a framing concept like the ones displayed here; however, after seeing them I can definitely see how this could be an advantage. Nice, very nice.

Why is every furture bike a road bike?? Why not moutain bikes??!!!
The future use of an iPhone. A gps for your bike. Like the concept of it.
Thanks for sharing these innovative designs with the world. From the view of a cyclist and one obsessed with usability in design, excellent! If you’re going to brainstorm to reach a deeper level of design and want some feedback, just say the word.
All very pretty to look at, but aside from the Peugeot they look unwieldy and seriously lacking in structural integrity, makes you wonder if the designers have ever even ridden a bike…
:) :) :) Yeah, i’m with you about that!!
This reminds me of my kid’s 5th grade art class. All the boys are airplane designers, same level of function and practicality as these bikes. How about let’s stick to working prototypes and skip right over the kid’s art.
WOW very cool, but are the comfortable to ride?? =0)
Love the post. Maybe hiking shoes may assist someone there.
Sorry Chad, English isn´t my first language. A couple of things: each one of these bikes is just a creation looking for a mind openning, and not as a way to to fall into a nonsense debate, comparing them with any other kind of bikes, i.e. cargo or mountain bikes.
They are thinked for another function, wich doesn´t means a demerit at all.
The futur of bikes seems to be a point not clearly understood by some people. I think it´s a matter of needless: if you need a cargo bike, buy a cargo bike, that’s fine, but if you wanna a bike to ride 100 miles I´m sure you´ll get a router one.
The problem of cost of course is a big problem, if we think in short terms of producing. But, when graphite reeels and roads appeared, we only was able to dream with this new stuff..
Concept bikes are an exaltation of both mind and handwork capabilities, where all progress comes from.
And, who can say they are not useful to simply take a ride?
